During an interview with Angela Yee to promote his new album The Product III: stateofEMERGEncy, August Alsina confessed he was deeply in love with Jada Pinkett-Smith and that Will Smith gave him his blessing. But now the 48-year-old actress says the claim is simply not true.
August, 27, grew in emotion as he described his close relationship with Pinkett-Smith. He revealed that the two were introduced by her son, Jaden, in 2015, and he even vacationed with the family in Hawaii in 2016 and attended the BET Awards together in 2017.
“I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life, and I truly and really, really deeply love and have a ton of love for her,” August said. “I devoted myself to it, I gave my full self to it—so much so to the point that I can die right now and be OK with knowing that I truly gave myself to somebody.”
“And I really loved a person, I experienced that and I know what that feels like—and some people never get that in this lifetime,” he continued. “I know that I am completely blessed and this conversation is difficult because it is so much, that it would be hard for people to understand, but—once it starts to affect me and my livelihood—I have to speak up about my truth.”
August equally alleges that their relationship had support from Jada’s husband, Will Smith. “I actually sat down with Will and had a conversation due to the transformation from their marriage to life partnership … he gave me his blessing,” he revealed.
Meanwhile, he reiterated that he’s not the kind of person that likes drama, so he decided to speak his truth. “Contrary to what people may believe, I am not a troublemaker. I don’t like drama. Drama actually makes me nauseous,” said Alsina. “And I also don’t think that it is ever important for people to know what I do, who I sleep with, who I date … but in this instance, it is very different because, as I said, there are so many people that are side-eyeing me, looking at me questionable.”
Even as the relationship has ended, he admitted he still has love for the Smiths. “I love those people literally like my family. I don’t have a bad thing to say about them. They are beautiful people.” he added.
Again, it was rumored that August’s 2009 song “Nunya” was about Jada. “Why is you textin’ me / Asking who next to me / Why you care about who having sex with me / Now you all on my line, why you pressing me?” he sings.
However, after August decided to go public with his relationship claims, Jada’s reps have responded, telling Page Six they are “absolutely not true.” While Will and Jada have been public about their open relationship, Jada’s team says August’s story is made up.
Meanwhile, Will Smith’s rep has also denied that August had Will’s blessing.
